Bluegrass Concert – Saturday May 16, 2026 – The Mayo Family Band – 4:00 PM – Free Indoor Event
“The Mayo Family Band is a local Maryland bluegrass band featuring brothers George Mayo (guitar/vocals) and Bill Mayo (bass/vocals), Bill’s daughter (George’s niece) Talbot Mayo Rozelle (fiddle/vocals), and friends who are more like family, Michael Columbus (mandolin/vocals) and George Lock (banjo). Brothers George and Bill have been singing together as long as they can remember and when the next generation came along, they encouraged and inspired a love of music in them, too. Talbot grew up listening to and learning from the two brothers and other family members joined as they’d “pick” the nights away and eventually, after trying out the jug and the washboard, picked up the fiddle. The trio was blessed to cross paths with fellow pickers George Lock and Michael Columbus many years ago, and the group has spent countless days and nights piling into the “band bus,” (a Dodge pick-up truck), and doing what the love — sharing a few tunes and a lot of smiles with so many wonderful, kind folks across the region. Between the old-time blood harmonies, toe-tapping good time tunes, and more laughs than you’d expect, you’re guaranteed to have almost as much fun as this band!” Come early as doors will open at 3:00 PM for best seats.
Gospel Hymn Sing 2026 – Fall 2026 At 4:00 PM – Free Indoor Event
Let’s gather as a community to sing the great hymns of our faith!
This Old Fashioned Gospel Hymn Sing is a family friendly event open to everyone. We’re sure you’ll experience the connecting Spirit of worshippers past and present as we lift our voices to God in song! You and your family will not want to miss this time of rejoicing at this annual community event! You might even want to ask your neighbors, friends and co-workers to come along with you and join in the memories and fun. Come and experience the blessing of hearing inspiring and soul stirring hymns in the beautiful setting of our historic sanctuary. This event will be held on a Sunday afternoon in September. Fall Concert – October 2026 – Free Indoor Event
Drawing inspiration from such varied sources as Robert Browning poems or school nights spent playing bluegrass, Talbot’s songwriting doesn’t easily fit into any one genre. It is, however, strongly grounded in the old-time bluegrass sounds of her roots. Her love of traditional country and honky-tonk music adds an easily noticeable twang to many of her songs, and a passion for alternative rock ‘n’ roll lends a gritty edge wherever it’s needed. With often-witty lyrics and peerless vocals that have been described as a mix of Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, it’s easy to find the appeal in a Talbot Mayo Band performance. Come join us as we welcome Talbot and her band for an afternoon of great country music! This event will take place on a Saturday in October. Please check back here on July 1 for day and time.
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service – Thursday December 24, 2026 At 3:00 PM
At Historic Jessops Church Inc., Christmas Eve is a special time where we enjoy the company of family and friends, and we worship together with classic carols, candles, heartwarming music and a simple message to remind us of the majesty of Christ. As our world groans in waiting for the return of our Savior, Christmas Eve reminds us that He has already come and the victory has already been won—the baby in the manger now sits on His throne!
